Privacy policy

Divorce Right is run by David Musselman, a divorce mediator in Utah. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Divorce Right animal quiz at quiz.divorceright.com, ask for your full report, or request a free consultation. We know people often take this quiz during a painful and private time, and we've tried to collect as little as possible.

The short version

  • Your quiz answers are saved without your name or email address.
  • Your email address is used only to send your report and, because you agreed, a few follow-up emails. You can unsubscribe any time.
  • If you request a consultation, your contact details go to David and, if needed, one mediator in the Divorce Right network. We contact you only the way you tell us is safest.
  • We don't sell your information, show you ads, or use tracking cookies.

What we collect, and why

When you take the quiz

We save your answers and your results (your divorce animal, your blend, and the animal you picked for your spouse) under a random ID. That record also includes the date, whether you said you have children under 18, your answer to the optional safety question, and how you found the quiz (for example, the website or campaign that linked you here). It does not include your name, email address, or IP address.

We use these anonymous records to improve the quiz and to publish general statistics, such as how common each animal is. We will never publish anything that could identify you.

Site usage

We count simple events on our own systems, such as starting the quiz, finishing it, and clicking a button, along with a random session ID. This helps us see whether the quiz is working for people. We don't use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or social media trackers.

When you ask for your full report

We collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name. We use them to send your report right away and, because you checked the consent box, a short series of follow-up emails over about two weeks, with occasional emails after that. The follow-up emails are personalized using your quiz results, such as your animal and the suggestions that go with it. Every one of them has an unsubscribe link.

When you request a consultation

We collect your name, email address, phone number, city, state, ZIP code, the way you told us is safest to reach you (and a time, if you chose one), any note you add, and your quiz results. We never ask for your street address.

Your safety

The quiz asks, optionally, whether you are ever afraid of your spouse. If your answers suggest you might be, we show you safety resources, we hide the sharing buttons, and we don't send you any promotional or follow-up emails. You receive only the report you asked for. If you request a consultation, the person who follows up sees that a safety concern was flagged, so they contact you only in the way you said is safe.

If you are in danger right now, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is free and confidential: call 1-800-799-7233 or text START to 88788.

Who we share it with

We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only with:

Cookies and browser storage

The quiz doesn't use cookies. It uses your browser's temporary session storage to remember your place in the quiz and your results while the tab is open. That storage is cleared when you close the tab. Our hosting provider sees your IP address in order to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse, but we don't save it with your quiz results.

How long we keep it

Your choices

Security

Your information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with providers that use industry-standard security. Access is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't put more in the consultation note than you're comfortable sharing.

Children

The quiz is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

This isn't advice

The quiz is an insight tool based on David Musselman's mediation experience. It is not a psychological assessment, legal advice, or a judgment of you or your spouse.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell people on our email list before it takes effect.
